The 450 acre Levera National Park in the northern parish of St.Patrick is one of Grenada’s most scenic and diverse coastal areas. Its picture-perfect beach is quite popular on weekends, and its lagoon is one of the most important wildlife habitats on the island. Consisting of an extensive mangrove swamp, the lagoon provides excitement for bird watchers as it is a haven for extraordinary birdlife including the brilliant Scarlet Ibis, herons, black-necked stilts, common snipes among others species. Levera’s marine areas are equally esteemed, with outstanding coral reefs and sea grass beds that shelter lobster and beautiful reef fish. The beach also attracts hundreds of endangered leatherback turtles during March to July seeking refuge to lay their eggs. These are important events and several operators will have special night time excursions to watch the cycles of nature unfold in the moonlight. By yourself, or with family, you can enjoy a pleasant walk on the trail circling the 23-acre pond. Be sure to visit the board walk which takes you over the pond where you can cycle or just enjoy quiet time in nature while capturing beautiful pictures.
